The importance of Privacy and Security for personal and professional notes

Data privacy laws help protect your data and promote the privacy of individuals. They also regulate how organisations can use your data online.

When individuals and businesses are considering online note-taking tools, privacy and security should be key considerations. By choosing the right software to help your business go paperless, you can ensure you data will be compliant with global regulatory bodies and have peace of mind that your data is safe and secure.

What to look for when choosing a secure online note-taking software program

Regardless of which note-taking tool you are considering, here are some of the key compliance practices to ensure are being carried out before sharing your data:

  • Does the organisation have a Data Processing Addendum (DPA)?
  • Does the organisation have an appointed Data Protection Officer (DPO)?
  • Does the organisation have an EU representative?
  • Are all staff within the organisation educated on GDPR?
  • Does development within the application include privacy by design principles?
  • Does the application mask, de-identify and collect minimal data?
  • Does the application have individual log-ins and passwords across sensitive data?
  • Does the organisation ensure all suppliers have appropriate safe-guards if they are processing data the organisation is required to pass on?
  • Does the organisation make sure staff only access private data when necessary and where consent has been provided?
  • Does the application use templates for internal risk analysis?
  • Does the organisation explain how they use cookies and why and give users a simple and clear option to choose which ones they consent to?
  • Does the organisation have an up-to-date Privacy Policy?
  • Does the organisation have an up-to-date User Terms Agreement e.g. Notud User Terms and include that the customer by agreeing to those terms, provides a general authorization for the organisation to engage any third part processors referred to in the User Terms and Privacy Policy?

Notud adheres to all of the above checklist and is compliant with Australian Privacy Laws and GDPR, so any notes you take with Notud are secure, encrypted, backed-up and compliant and most importantly all of your data remains yours.
